Even though you may do dozens of crunches and
abdominal exercises a day, you may find it
impossible to lose the excess fat and skin
around your midsection. Luckily, there is a
solution--abdominoplasty. Abdominoplasty, or
"tummy tuck," is a cosmetic procedure designed
to give you sleeker, more defined abs.
First, an incision is made from one hip to the
other, and the skin is separated from the
abdominal muscles. The muscles are tightened,
narrowing the waistline and flattening the
midsection. Next, the flap of skin is folded
down and excess skin is removed. Finally, the
flap is redraped and the incision is stitched
closed. The entire procedure takes between two
and five hours, depending on how much work is
needed. Bruising, swelling, numbness, and
fluid collections/seromas are the most common
side effects of abdominoplasty.
